Markéta Jáchimová #okcow
Opening & Release 18.05.2023 von 18.00 - 21.00 Uhr; Ausstellung bis 30.05.2023
The "#Okcow" is a project based on the contrast between nature and the urban environment. It is presented by a photo catalog and art installation at Redaction 957 in Lucerne.
The project draws its ideas from the surroundings of the artist's studio in Staldenhof located on the outskirts of the city of Luzerne in an industrial area, where forests, farms and construction companies merge into an inspiring whole.
Markéta Jáchimová is a Czech visual artist and curator living and working in Lucerne, Switzerland since 2017. Her current body of work focuses on using the method of handmade tapestries. This method consists in a special way of processing textile waste in a textile picture – tapestry.
"#Okcow"project works with cows from a local Swiss farm. Monumental cows with black and white skin carrying an artistic tapestry on their bodies, they merge and become part of the artwork. The artist draws a connection between two different worlds in an incomprehensible composition that transcends the boundaries of traditional art presentations and fashion shows.
The whole installation is carried by construction materials from local company Lawil Gerüste AG. The fragments of the scaffolding have been an inspiration for the tapestry motifs. Like black corrugated roofing which has very aesthetic and symbolic importance for the artist, or by a construction tower which is built at the exhibition space and framing the whole installation.
The title of the project is inspired by the hashtag the artist uses to comment on bizarre human actions on social media. “#okcow” is in turn a placeholder name representing a kind of nonsense and the artist's specific sense of humor.
